Pumpkin Experiment

Pumpkin Experiment

Check out this fun video of seventh and eighth grade Science Teacher Rebecca Waintrup (Edelman) showing her students “a catalyzed exothermic reaction, in which hydrogen peroxide mixed with liquid soap is broken down rapidly into water and oxygen using something called a catalyst [in this case, yeast], which speeds up the reaction. This reaction produces a tremendous amount of foam in a short period of time, hence the ‘puking pumpkin’. This experiment is also known as Elephant Toothpaste.”
